Communication Creates Conflict Heath Bunting, 1995
What are some of the ways that the authors chose to represent the places and events in the projects below?
- The author represented "cybercafe" as a vehicle to communicate with other human beings, not necessarily knowing who they are. For example, when you clik the first link "say", the next page tells you that it's a fax that is currently out of service. When you click the link "en" (penetration) it takes you to a page that offers you to send a postcard, free of charge, to a complete stranger, who apparently likes to receive postcards. Also, I haven't personally been to Tokyo, but the author makes Tokyo seem as a place that has lots of terrorists and expensive food when I read his description of the area.
What are some characteristics of these representations that are specific to the medium of the internet?
- The internet is a medium used constantly for social networking and information. The site gives links to different forms of communication as well as personal information about Tokyo.
